One morning Boon Ming woke up to find that he was late for school. He quickly brushed his teeth and gobbled down his breakfast.
After he boarded the bus, he discovered to his embarrassment that he had no money in his wallet for the bus fare. The kind bus driver let him take the bus anyway.
His trouble did not stop there. At the school gate, he was stopped by the prefect for not wearing white socks. The prefect reported him to the principal, who then gave him a piece of her mind.
That way, Boon Ming really did not have luck on his side.

My Surprise Birthday Party
“Yeah! It’s my birthday today!” Robert said to himself while getting ready to go to school. His mother heard him and suddenly realised that she had some shopping to do. She promptly went to the market to buy some food stuff to prepare for a celebration.
After sending Robert to school, Robert’s father went home to decorate the living room. He put up banners, colourful ribbons and blew up a few balloons to hang onto the pillars. Then he made a few phone calls.
After a tiring day at school, Robert started his journey home. Nobody walked home with him. He was upset and wondered why his friends were not around. Actually they had all planned a surprise party for Robert.
When he finally reached home, he pushed open the front door. “Happy Birthday!” Everybody in the house shouted. There they were, his parents and friends. He was really happy!
They ate a lot of delicious pastries and drumsticks and played many fun games. When it was time for the friends to go home, they were so full and exhausted that they could hardly move! And for Robert, he was so happy that he couldn’t sleep until midnight. It was indeed a memorable birthday celebration for him.

A Hit-And-Run Accident
I was on my way to school when I saw a dog bleeding profusely on the road. A car was speeding away. Obviously, it was a hit and run. “What an irresponsible driver!” I said to myself and quickly noted down the car license plate number.
I wonder how I could help the poor animal and looked around me. Luckily, there was a pet shop nearby. I gently picked the dog up and carried it to the pet shop. When the pet shop owner saw us, he quickly took out a first-aid kit and dressed the wound.
A few minutes later, the pet owner came by. I told him what happened, and he was distraught to see his pet suffer. Worried that I would be late for school, I ran there as fast as my legs could carry me. “Oh! I forgot to tell him the car license plate number.” I realised this mistake only when the school gate came in sight.

Ah Beng’s Mischief’s at the Zoo
The mischievous Ah Beng is at it again, this time at the zoo. He slings a mid-size pebble at the elephant in the enclosure, and it hits the poor animal right in the eye. The elephant trumpets in anger, but there is nothing it can do.
The monkey next door looks on. Soon, it is its turn. “Ouch! That was painful”, Ah Beng shouts triumphantly as the pebble falls on the monkey’s head. The furious monkey waves its fist at the boy, swearing away.
Ah Beng leaves to find his next victim. But, his shirt gets trapped and he can not move. “Oh! No…” before he finishes his sentence, the elephant is already giving him a shower with cold dirty water. The monkey adds some leaves. “What a sweet revenge! This should teach this fellow a lesson” the animals say to each other.
