Mark and Ah Beng Broke a Vase

Mark was so happy to have a visitor this morning; Ah Beng, his best friend in school. But it was raining cats and dogs.

Feeling bored, they decided to have a game of “catch the ball”. Mark had forgotten the warning his mother gave the last time he broke a vase, “Never turn a living room into a soccer field.”

Five minutes into the game, it was Mark’s turn to throw. “Catch!” Mark threw with all the strength he had. The ball dashed so fast and high that Ah Beng had no chance to catch it at all. CRASH! The loud sound of the vase breaking told them that they would be in big trouble. They looked in dismay at the damage done to mother’s precious vase that was on the cupboard just three seconds ago. “What should we do now?” They hadn’t got a clue.

Just then, the door opened and Mark’s mother appeared with her shopping bags. The two boys immediately told her about the accident and apologized for their mischief. To their relief, Mark’s mother decided to let the matter rest, for she had a great time shopping this morning.
