Today is a special day for Tom; he is going shopping with mummy and grandma. They are organising a surprise birthday party for daddy who is still at work.
Fifteen minutes later, grandma suddenly declares, “I need to rush to the toilet, it is an emergency!” Before Tom and his mother can respond, grandma has started running to the nearest escalator as if she is being chased by a tiger.
Tom seeing that the escalator is actually coming down shouts, “Wait grandma!” Before he can finish his sentence, grandma has slipped and fallen.
“Ouch! My back hurts, please call an ambulance for me…” Tom’s mother, together with a passer-by help grandma to her feet. The passer-by who introduces himself as a Chinese doctor, then gives grandma a back rub. Within minutes, a smile appears on grandma’s face, she thanks the man and says, “I think I’m alright, let’s continue shopping.”

Tom Banged by a Bike
It was a fine Monday morning. John and his best friend Tom were about to reach their school. The pedestrian light had turned green, and they crossed the road after seeing there was no on-coming traffic.
Then, all of a sudden, a big boy appeared on his dashing bike, and was about to crash into Tom. “Watch out!” a passer-by shouted. But it was too late. The bike banged right into Tom’s right leg and sent him spinning.
“Ouch!” Tom cried out in pain. John helped him up and put a bandage around his ankle. The passer-by gave the big boy a piece of his mind for riding in such a dangerous manner. After five minutes rest, John helped the limping Tom to his classroom, just in time for his mathematics lesson.

Ranjan the Acrobat at the Playground
Ranjan liked to show off when he was at the playground. “Look, mum! Doesn’t this look like a helicopter?” said Ranjan, as he swirled the merry-go-round at frightening speed.
Before his mother had any chance to express her disapproval, Ranjan had already climbed to the top of the slide. “Stop it!” his mother yelled, when she saw Ranjan running down the slide. “Ouch!” his acrobatic performance ended when he crashed his head on the ground, after falling from the slide.
It was so painful that he promised himself not to do it again, when he was being carried into the ambulance.

Peter Saw a Car Accident
This morning, the school bus was so anxious to be away that it left before Peter boarded. He had no choice but to walk to school. “It is such a long way down the road when it is raining” grumbled Peter.
When he was walking across the traffic junction, a sport car swerved and crashed into a jeep on the other side of the road. The lady driver in the jeep cried out in pain. The young man hopped out of his sports car to examine the damage done.
Just as Peter started to wonder what he should do next, a police car came in sight. Some body must have reported the accident promptly. Afraid that he would be late for school, Peter immediately continued his journey.
Time went and soon the hands of the clock pointed to twelve. He reached his seat five seconds before his English teacher appeared in the classroom.

Mark Baked a Cake
Mary decided to bake a cake for her mother’s birthday. While picking up the ingredients and decorations from the grocery shop, she could not help feeling excited about the idea.
She diligently followed the instructions from the cookbook, hoping that her mother would like her creation at the end.
An hour later, the cake, fresh from the oven, looked flat and burnt. It was such a let down.
Her father consoled her, “That was a good try, girl!” They finally got Mary’s mother her favourite strawberry cake from a bakery, just in time for the birthday party.

Mark and Ah Beng Broke a Vase
Mark was so happy to have a visitor this morning; Ah Beng, his best friend in school. But it was raining cats and dogs.
Feeling bored, they decided to have a game of “catch the ball”. Mark had forgotten the warning his mother gave the last time he broke a vase, “Never turn a living room into a soccer field.”
Five minutes into the game, it was Mark’s turn to throw. “Catch!” Mark threw with all the strength he had. The ball dashed so fast and high that Ah Beng had no chance to catch it at all. CRASH! The loud sound of the vase breaking told them that they would be in big trouble. They looked in dismay at the damage done to mother’s precious vase that was on the cupboard just three seconds ago. “What should we do now?” They hadn’t got a clue.
Just then, the door opened and Mark’s mother appeared with her shopping bags. The two boys immediately told her about the accident and apologized for their mischief. To their relief, Mark’s mother decided to let the matter rest, for she had a great time shopping this morning.

Jane Against the Bully
“Give me your money!” shouted the big bully, twisting the little boy’s hand. “No!” pleaded the little boy. Jane did not like what she saw and dashed to the Principal’s Office to seek help.
The Principal gave the big bully a piece of his mind. Jane’s good deed did not stop there; she comforted the little boy who was still crying.
Jane became the centre of attention during the school assembly, when the Principal told the whole school about what happened the day before.
